2023 Q4 Hospitality Sales Snapshot

The 2023 Q4 Hospitality Sales Snapshot provides top line statistics on the hospitality industry.

With data sourced from Statistics New Zealand and the Restaurant Association, the Q4 Report provides relevant data on the state of the hospitality industry.

Selected highlights:

• The fourth quarter of 2023 reported a growth rate of 4.2 per cent over the year previous.
• Total sales for the industry over the 4th quarter of 2023 were $4.1 billion, representing 4.2 per cent sales growth over the same quarter in 2022.
• Dollar value of sales for the restaurant and cafe sector over the 4th quarter of 2023 was $2.0 billion.
• Regionally, revenue growth vs the previous year in the Gisborne region was highest for the 4th quarter of 2023 (41.9 per cent). This was followed by Queenstown-Lakes at 12.9 per cent growth over the same period in 2022.

• Quarterly sales data by sector for Q4 (restaurants & cafés; pubs, taverns & bars; catering; food to go; and clubs), showing sales trend over previous year and previous quarter
