Service Start – Customer Service Essentials Training for Job Seekers

Service Start is an two week industry-focused customer service essentials training programme delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) in Christchurch to support job seekers into sustainable employment across customer-facing industries including hospitality, retail, and tourism.

The programme is currently delivered in Christchurch, providing practical, work-focused training that builds confidence, workplace readiness, and employability. Service Start supports participants to develop the skills and mindset needed to successfully transition into customer service roles and long-term career pathways.

What Do Service Start Trainees Get?

Industry introduction:

  • Hospitality fundamentals
  • Customer service essentials

Workplace readiness skills:

  • Time management, priorities, and goal setting
  • Professional behaviour and workplace expectations
  • Building confidence, resilience, and a positive attitude

Our main focus is graduating trainees with the right attitude, a drive to learn, and basic customer service skills. Upon completion, we actively help recruit graduates into employment for 8 weeks, and our support continues through pastoral care and mentorship
