The 2023 Q2 Hospitality Sales Snapshot provides top line statistics on the hospitality industry.

With data sourced from Statistics New Zealand and the Restaurant Association, the Q2 Report provides relevant data on the state of the hospitality industry.

Selected highlights:

  • Although the second quarter of 2023 reported a growth rate of 9.8%, notably, menu pricing has also risen by a comparable percentage of 9.2%, playing a significant role in this growth and reflecting necessary price adjustments.
  • Total sales for the industry over the 2nd quarter of 2023 were $3.77 billion, representing 9.8 per cent sales growth over the same quarter in 2022.
  • Dollar value of sales for the restaurant and cafe sector over the 2nd quarter of 2023 was $1.86 billion.
  • Regionally, revenue growth vs the previous year in Kaikoura was highest for the 2nd quarter of 2023. This was followed by Queenstown-Lakes at 30 per cent growth over the same period in 2022.
