The wait is almost over! The MICHELIN Guide will announce New Zealand’s inaugural selection in Auckland on 30 June.
The MICHELIN Guide has chosen Aotearoa as the first destination in Oceania to feature in the guide. It is also the furthest the Guide has ever travelled from its European origins. That alone says something about how the world is starting to see us. The selection, covering restaurants in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown, follows nearly a year of inspections across the country.
The ceremony will reveal the full restaurant selection. This includes MICHELIN Stars, Bib Gourmand and Selected distinctions, alongside Special Awards recognising exceptional talent and leadership within our dining scene. Following the announcement, guests will experience an exclusive culinary celebration featuring internationally acclaimed MICHELIN-recognised chefs — including Nobu Lee of NOBUO, the New Zealand-born chef behind one of Taiwan’s most celebrated one-MICHELIN-Star restaurants, and Michael Cimarusti of Providence in Los Angeles, currently holding three MICHELIN Stars.
For our industry, this is the global acknowledgment we deserve — recognition of the quality, creativity and manaakitanga that have always defined dining in this country, and a signal that New Zealand’s food culture has well and truly arrived on the global stage.
