Learn essential information on employer obligations with e-learning modules
Employment New Zealand has free e-learning modules to provide you with guidance on your responsibilities as an employer and what you can and can’t do. There are also employee modules that you can encourage your team members to go through.
The online courses cover employment basics and minimum rights and obligations over 8 modules:
- An introduction to your employment obligations (employee / employer)
- Working arrangements (employee / employer)
- Employment agreements (employer)
- Hours of work (employee)
- Resolving problems (employee / employer)

The mandatory requirement for accredited employers to complete Employment New Zealand’s online modules for Accredited Employer Work Visas (AEWV) is no longer in effect. This change took place on January 27, 2025. Employers are no longer required to provide paid time for employees to complete these modules. Employees are still able to use the modules as a learning resource.
