The Role

As Head Chef you will take creative leadership of our kitchen and team, crafting seasonal menus that compliment our premium wines  and reflect the relaxed luxury of the Stonyridge experience.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and inspire the kitchen team with creativity and professionalism

Design and execute menus that highlight regional and seasonal ingredients with competitive costings

Collaborate closely with the Front of House team, Bookings team and Larose Club Manager to ensure seamless guest experiences

Manage kitchen operations, budgeting, supplier relationships, food and health and safety compliance

Work with your CEO and/or Hospitality Manager to optimise the businesses success.

About the role
We are seeking a friendly Junior Chef to join our team. We offer a supportive work
environment and an opportunity for you to bring your own creativity and ideas to the
kitchen.
We are specifically hoping to find a Junior Chef that shares our values – warm hospitality
with exceptionally high customer service skills, team work and a passion for making
outstanding plates of food with quality ingredients. An interest in sustainability would be
a great fit with our café values.
You will be preparing and cooking a limited menu of quality plated dishes for our A La
Carte menu, and making cabinet food. You will work together with the Head Chef and
other kitchen staff on menu development, creating seasonal specials, managing food
costs and food waste, establishing and optimising work flows and maintaining excellent
food safety and hygiene standards. The Head Chef will support you with training and
skill development to help you develop your own skill set and experience. A culinary
degree is preferred.
About us
Mountain Folk Café Retreat is a new café opening in Pirongia village, just 25 minutes
from Hamilton CBD. Our mission is to provide distinctly warm hospitality to our local
and visiting audiences, and a high-quality selection of plated dishes, cabinet food and
beverages.
We also hope to share a sense of connection to our local maunga through the café visit
experience, as well as champion sustainability values through operating a low waste
kitchen, utilising local seasonal produce, café composting and on-site herb gardens.

Farina is an iconic, fast-paced restaurant located on Ponsonby Road, known for its authentic Italian cuisine, extensive beverage list, and exceptional dining experience. Established in 2014 and fully renovated in 2024, Farina has become a culinary destination offering outstanding service. We are proud to have been awarded the Cuisine Good Food Award 2024: One Hat, reaffirmed in 2025, along with being named Metropolitan Restaurant of the Year 2025.

The Right Candidate

We are looking for someone passionate about hospitality and table service who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to continuous improvement. The position will run from September 2025 until the end of January 2026.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum 2 years’ proven experience in a similar role (waiting table in a restaurant). Confidence in managing a section of minimum 6 tables
  • Upselling experience with food and beverages (Italian in particular). Strong knowledge of wines and excellent customer service skills
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and interpersonal, are required to provide excellent customer service
  • A positive attitude and strong teamwork skills are essential with Excellent presentation and grooming
  • Minimum 6 months commitment

We are open to casual and part-time candidates as well, with a strong preference for long-term commitment (at least 6 months).

Monday & Thursday Shifts – All-Rounder Wanted!

HNT Kitchen is on the lookout for someone awesome to join our small, passionate team in Commercial Bay.

We urgently need someone who can commit to Mondays and Thursdays, either:

7am–2/3pm

OR

11am–6:30pm

These are currently our only shifts available – but for the right person, more hours are likely to come.

This is an all-rounder position, which means you’ll be doing a bit of everything – customer service, food prep, and cleaning. It’s a physical role that requires someone switched-on, reliable, and able to think on their feet.

We’re looking for someone who is:

Experienced in hospitality

Proactive and a great communicator

Confident working independently as well as part of a team

Keen to work in a fast-paced, nourishing wholefood kitchen

We make all our meals from scratch – no deep fryers here, just hearty, wholesome goodness.
