Little Savanna takes out five awards including supreme establishment award.
The hospitality community got together tonight at Awapuni Events Centre to celebrate the individuals and businesses at the top of their game with the announcement of the winners of the 2022 Manawatu Hospitality Awards.
Presented by the Restaurant Association of New Zealand with the support of lead sponsor Gilmours, the awards acknowledge the outstanding hospitality professionals and businesses, who are making a positive impact on the local café, dining and drinking scene.
African inspired restaurant Little Savanna picked up five awards including supreme establishment and outstanding restaurant.
When owners Margie, a South African, and Andy Holmes, a Kiwi, moved from South Africa to New Zealand they missed the flavours of the traditional South African ‘braai’ so decided to emulate the concept here.
The restaurant is also known for having a close knit team delivering excellent service and fittingly receive a nomination for outstanding front of house team.
Popular Wanganui eatery Elm Cafe loved by locals for its sunny courtyard dining area took out the award for outstanding cafe.
Those looking for a great place to drink and dine with friends won’t be disappointed with Brew Union Brewing Company who took out the awards for outstanding bar, outstanding street food/take out as well as ambience and design.
A restaurant, bar and brewery, Brew Union is Palmerston Norths local, offers a range of beers brewed onsite alongside craft beverages from independent breweries across New Zealand, along with a large selection of gins, wood fired pizzas, elevated pub food and great service.
Dannevirke eatery High St Bistro was voted the people’s favourite picking up the people’s choice award.
Owners, father and son duo Brock and Campbell Sprague started the bistro together two years ago and has since become a popular haunt with locals and those passing through the area.
Restaurant Association CEO Marisa Bidois says that as hospitality starts its recovery from several challenging years, it is encouraging to see long-established attractions joined by new and emerging venues. “Whether you want to try the regions craft beers in a relaxed pub setting or sample fine dining from some of the region’s best chefs, the Manawatu has you covered.
“The Restaurant Association is dedicated to supporting the hospitality industry, providing support to business owners and the future leaders of our industry. The awards give us an opportunity to promote the local hospitality community, bringing people together to recognise our achievements in what continues to be unpredictable times. It is more important than ever to connect and celebrate one another’s success.”
