Smokefree by 2025: Council’s updated Smoking Policy

posted on

Recently the Auckland Council voted to implement a smokefree policy on beaches, shared urban spaces, Council land and outdoor dining areas that are on Council land ie: those with Street Trading Licences.

This ban comes into force immediately and will impact 800 hospitality businesses who have Street Trading Licences, however it will only take effect on that Licence at the time of the next renewal.

Members with Street Trading Licences need to be aware that under the Street Trading Bylaw, it is a requirement for them to adhere to the conditions of their licence, which will now include a smokefree clause upon renewal.

Vaping is not included in this new policy as vaping is considered to be an important part of assisting people to transition from smoking to quitting.
