Presented by Tim Read

‘Improving’ is used as we all have mental health (thought about in much the same vein as fitness), and the goal is to work towards a greater state of wellbeing. Happy to answer any questions you might have on this, though.

Survival in our industry demands resilience. But when we, as leaders, are struggling ourselves, how can we help our teams develop it? In this talk, I’ll explore how leaders can create an environment that fosters their team’s mental and emotional growth—both during and after service.

Presenter Bio:

Tim Reid is a New Zealand chef and mental health advocate who rose to prominence after winning MasterChef New Zealand in 2015. Originally trained as a physiotherapist, Reid found his true calling in the culinary world following personal experiences that shaped his approach to food and community.

After his MasterChef victory, Reid took his culinary career to international heights, working in prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants across Scandinavia, including Fäviken in Sweden and a three-Michelin star establishment in Norway that reached 32nd on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list during his tenure.

Reid has published a cookbook and appeared on food shows around the world, but his passion extends beyond cooking. Drawing from his own mental health journey, he has become a vocal advocate for wellbeing in the hospitality industry, focusing particularly on creating supportive communities and fostering resilience among industry professionals.

Today, Reid combines his culinary expertise with his dedication to improving mental health outcomes in New Zealand’s hospitality sector, working closely with industry organizations like the Restaurant Association of New Zealand and Hospitality New Zealand to create meaningful change in the industry.
