This survey was conducted in September 2021.
While Auckland is sitting at Alert Level 4 and the rest of the country is managing the new restrictions of Alert Level 2, we’re considering different ideas to help support businesses. One idea that has been discussed is a “Covid surcharge”, an optional surcharge businesses could apply, much as you would a public holiday surcharge. The surcharge could be used to pay for wages, rent and other operating costs. This poll sought feedback on this proposal.
Key findings:
- 78% say they would not consider adding a Covid surcharge.
- 40% say they would anticipate customers would react negatively to a Covid surcharge.
