Canterbury’s top dining establishments revealed

The Restaurant Association of NZ and lead sponsor Trents Wholesale are pleased to announce the finalists in the 2021 Canterbury Hospitality Awards.

Vying for the coveted title of Outstanding Restaurant are 5th Street, Gatherings, Hali Bar & Bistro and Twenty Seven Steps.

The best chefs in the city have been recognised with Samson Stewart of 5th Street, Finbar McArthy of Gatherings, Simon Levy of INATI & Hali Bar & Bistro and Paul Howells of Twenty Seven Steps all up for the Outstanding Chef category.

Great cafes are not lacking in the region with Child Sister, Hello Sunday, Little Poms, South Town Club all finalists in the category of outstanding cafe.

Those looking for a place to get a great drink also won’t be disappointed with the region’s assortment of top-notch bars recognised.

Austin Club, gin gin, O.G.B and The Last Word are all contenders for the title of outstanding cocktail experience while Cellar Door, gin gin, Hali Bar & Bistro and Twenty Seven Steps are all recognised in the category of best wine and beverage list.

Newcomers Austin Club, gin gin, Hali Bar & Bistro and Wilko are all finalists for the region’s best new establishment.

Canterbury locals are being invited to vote for their favourite place to dine out in the Potatoes NZ People’s Choice Award.

21 awards will be presented to the best of the Canterbury hospitality industry. From crew members, to suppliers, to establishments – the best of the best will be celebrated for their contribution to creating a world-class hospitality scene in the region.

Restaurant Association CEO Marisa Bidois says, “This has been a challenging year for hospitality but the local hospo community are known for their innovation and resilient spirit, continuing to deliver exceptional dining experiences.

The awards are an opportunity to recognise those that are the best of the best and spread the word about the amazing places there are to drink and eat in the region.”

Voting is open until Sunday, 24th October and the winners will be revealed at the awards evening on Monday, 1st November at Addington Raceway. Tickets are strictly limited and on sale now.
